Art Subject Leader: Miss T Grunwald
Year 9
Art
The year 9 course at Harlington is the final year of art education at Key Stage Three. The course builds upon the student’s earlier experiences, skills and abilities and is a continuation of the work they have done at their Middle schools. Every student is encouraged to maintain a work journal/sketchbook which is an essential part of the final assessment. Throughout the course the students are given a variety of opportunities to experiment and explore a range of materials and processes in art. Homework tasks are set regularly and encourage the students to develop their research and independent learning skills.
3D Art Studies Enrichment
On this course you will experience ways of working with 3D materials and develop a range of art work to include; clay and ceramics, large paper constructions, wire and plaster, working both individually and in groups. This course is designed to develop your skills in 3D materials and is an enjoyable and fun addition to your GCSE studies.
Year 10
Art GCSE
The course you will be following is designed to develop your own practical skills and ability. It will help you to understand and to gain knowledge of how ideas, meanings and feelings are put across in art. We look at how these ideas relate to the lives of artists and to your own experiences. Students studying Art GCSE need to be ‘practitioners and critics’, (you need to be a ‘thinker’ about art and a ‘maker’ of art at the same time).
At the end of the course you will display your work in an exhibition for a final assessment by the Examiners. This will include your units of coursework, your sketchbooks and your examination work.
