Careers

We offer a variety of activities and events for Careers. These include:
Off-timetable careers days for years 9 and 11.

The Year 9 day is held in July and students have the opportunity to meet employers, investigate their own careers options based on their interests and skills and study what generic skills employers are looking for in the 21st Century economy.

The Year 11 day is held in January and looks at post 16 options. We have visitors from the local colleges, from local apprenticeship organisations, from the Unversity of Befordshire. These visitors give a brief talk but the main part of the session allows students to ask their own questions.

The main careers work done in year 10 is centred around Work Experience and its associated exploration of the real world or work. Please see the Work Experience section of the school's website for further details.

In addition to the off-timetable days, careers development and work-related learning is carried out throughout the curriculum. For example, form tutors carry out reviews with their tutees on a regular basis and agree targets.

Finally, every student is entitled to an meeting with the school's Connexions Personal Adviser - the present day careers interview. Students simply need to ask their Form Tutor to pass on their names and a meeting will be arranged.
If you would like any further information on careers at Harlington Upper School, contact the Careers Co-ordinator, Mr S Sims on ssims@harlington.org

Careers Corner

On Wednesday 13th January year 11 students will have a post 16 careers morning here at school. Representatives from local colleges, apprenticeship training groups, the University of Bedfordshire and from the sixth form will give the students a quick summary of what they offer. After that, students will be able to talk to them individually. The purpose of the morning is to make sure our students are as informed as possible about their career choices after year 11.
