This course focuses on the development of children from conception to the age of five. It also puts into perspective the importance of the family and the nature of relationships, related to the roles and responsibilities of parenthood. The subject content is divided into five units:
1. Family and parenting
2. Preparation for pregnancy and birth
3. Physical, intellectual, social and emotional development
4. Nutrition and health
5. Community support
Important: Knowing a child under five years of age is desirable for the completion of this course. One major coursework element involves studying the development of a pre-school child over a period of time. If you do not have regular access to a child of this age, please discuss this with a member of Food & Textiles staff prior to choosing this subject.
