This course will enable students to develop their design ideas and practical skills through the medium of textiles. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the areas of fashion and textiles in the home.

Units of work include: Fibres, Fabrics, Enhancement of fabrics and Fashion.

Using theoretical and practical experience, the students will study design needs, fibre classification, construction and maintenance techniques, embroidery techniques / computerised design, the influence of fashion, advertising and the media, correct choice and use of tools.

Students will be asked for a voluntary contribution for Year 10 materials at the beginning of the course and this will include a discounted pattern, folder and work books. Another contribution will be required in Year 11 when students will need to have fabric and components to carry out their chosen coursework. The cost of this does not need to be great and is determined by students’ individual designs.
