Year 9 Media
Pupils studying this exciting course will aim to develop an understanding of the pleasure and enjoyment provided by the media. There is a lot to study in the media and some of the areas which may be covered are animation, news broadcasting, radio adverts, popular music press, games consoles, comics, films or any number of television programmes. There are four key concepts you will be introduced to Media Language, Audience, Institutions and Representation. These will give you an excellent introduction to GCSE Media. The course willappeal to those who are generally interested in the Media, and to those who may eventually consider careers in the Media Industries.
Year 10 Media Studies GCSE
Students studying this course will explore how and why the Mass Media plays such an important role in our lives, and in what ways they provide us with information and entertainment. There are four key concepts you will learn and explore: Media Language, Audience, Institutions and Representation.
Under each key concept you may study any of the following areas:
1) Film
2) Television
3) New Media Technologies
4) The Press and Magazines
5) Popular Music
The additional units of the double award will allow students to explore media industries in more depth leading to a better understanding of the world of employment within media related careers. Students are encouraged to develop a critical understanding of the role of the media in society. They will be encouraged to develop their ability to respond critically and practically to a range of media texts. The course will appeal to those who are generally interested in the Media, and to those who may eventually consider careers in the Media Industries.
