Year 9
You will have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of individual and team physical activities. Within these, you will extend your existing skills and fitness levels. New skills, techniques, tactics and learning strategies will be introduced. The key focus is that you enjoy taking part and understand the lifelong personal benefits of participation in physical activity. In addition, you have the opportunity to follow an enrichment course in either, Dance, Outdoor and Adventurous Activities, or Sports Leadership.
Year 10
1. Physical Education GCSE (Full Course)
This is a two year course, which will suit those students who have a good level of practical ability across a range of sports and have a strong desire to learn the theoretical concepts that explain sport performance. Students are assessed in both practical performance (60%) and the theory of sport (40%).

2. Physical Education – Practical Activity Course & Sports Leadership
This is a practical based two-year course with an additional opportunity to develop your leadership skills in sport. There is the possibility of gaining accreditation in a recognised Sports Leaders Award, in partnership with SportsLeader UK.
3. BTEC First Certificate in Sport – Level 2
This is a two year course, which will suit those students who have a sound level of practical sport ability and have an interest in the theoretical concepts that explain sport performance, but prefer to be assessed through coursework rather than a formal written examination. It focuses on the vocational element of sport.

4. BTEC First Certificate in Sport (Outdoor Education)
This is a two year course, which will suit those students who have a keen interest in outdoor and adventurous activities and the underlying theoretical concepts explaining performance in these specialised activities. Assessment is through coursework rather than a formal written examination. It focuses on the vocational element of outdoor and adventurous activities.

Sixth Form
The PE Department provide three sport specialist courses to our students in our Sixth Form.
All three courses are progressive transitions from the Year 10 PE courses.
A Level PE
The A Level P.E. course involves studies based on the interaction between the theory & practice of Physical Education. The focus is on participation and performance in physical activity as part of a balanced, active and healthy lifestyle. The specifications allow you to develop your knowledge and understanding in the science and socio-cultural theoretical aspects of sport.

Year 12
Theory –
• Anatomy & Physiology
• Acquiring & Performing Movement Skills
• Contemporary Studies
(All the above units are assessed in a formal written external examination)
Practical –
• Performance/leading/officiating in 2 selected sports
• Oral Examination - Evaluate and plan for the improvement of performance
Year 13
Theory -
• Exercise & Sport Physiology
• Historical Studies in Physical Education
• Psychology of Sport Performance
(All the above units are assessed in a formal written external examination)
Practical -
• Performance/leading/officiating in 1 selected sport
• Oral Examination – synoptic critical evaluation assessment
BTEC Level 3 National Subsidiary Diploma in Sport
This two year course is equivalent to one A-level.
On successful completion of a BTEC Level 3 National Subsidiary Diploma learners can progress into higher education or within employment and/or continue their study in the same vocational area. The BTEC National Subsidiary Diploma in Sport provides an introduction to the sector for learners looking to build a career in sport, within one of its occupational areas.
