GCSE Examination
Product Design GCSE
There are three courses related to Product Design (a modern version of Design Technology):
1. Product Design with emphasis on Resistant Materials (wood, metal, plastics, etc)
2. Product Design with emphasis on Graphic Materials (paper, card, foam, etc)
3. Product Design with emphasis on Electronic Products (including control systems)
The fundamental aim is to continue with the work achieved in Key Stage 3 and to provide the opportunity to assess a candidate’s design and technology capability with rewards for imagination, innovation and flair.
To cover the content in the written exam, students will be expected to have knowledge of all areas so will spend part of their time working with other materials.
Throughout the course students will have the opportunity to develop their design skills, producing ideas in a 2-dimensional form through to 3 dimensions. These skills will be vital as they will follow through into small projects that provide a foundation to what is necessary in Year 11 and the main coursework components, this is worth 60% of their marks.
